Pou Matua - Director

Teahooterangi Pihama

Prior to establishing RŌA, Teahooterangi Pihama spent 12 years in commercial banking and banking industry leadership.

Financially governing portfolios of diverse businesses has gaven him insight across a wide range of industries and the opportunity to deliver capital and financial solutions through a Waiaro Māori approach that looked for, understood and mitigated the true risk of a business.

In his previous leadership experience, Teahooterangi led Māori strategy within a national banking environment, influencing work across access to capital, organisational change, brand, communications, process improvement and product development. This gave him a rare view into how large organisations make decisions, where systems constrain Māori economic opportunity, and how strategy can be translated into practical, organisation-wide change.

He was the founder and co-chair of Tāwhia, the Māori bankers group, governance committee member of The Stewardship Code Aotearoa, associate director of Tainui Group Holdings, and was associate director of Te Mātāwai.

Through RŌA, Teahooterangi brings together commercial discipline, kaupapa Māori, governance experience and strategic truth-telling to support organisations ready to move differently.
